Currently there are two methods of harnessing solar energy; thermal conversion and photovoltaic conversion. Using the heat of the sun to make electricity is known as solar conversion. Electricity can be generated by direct exposure to the sun by sheet of a specialized material that are photovoltaic.

If you have ever starting a magnifying glass fire, than you were using solar energy. High heat is created when the sun beats down on the magnifying glass. Actual solar cells used to store heat use this method to superheat liquids that produce steam. The steam that is produced will turn a turbine and produce electricity.
Photovoltaic Conversion translates to light that is converted to electricity. Photovoltatic cell comprise panels made of two layers which are not made of the same stuff. When the two layers are touched by light, one layer gets a positive charge, while the second layer gets a negative charge. Electric current is produced, when a ositive end and a negative end, when a wire connects the two ends, it produces very much like a regular battery. When you expose the two layers inside a solar panel to sunlight it creates electricity.
A single power cell will be able to generate electricity more quickly when the sun is out. You can derive the maximum benefits by their exposure for a longer duration to direct and scorching sun.
Solar cells are used today to power anything from small personal devices, such as cell phones, to large communities. Solar power offers many benefits including the fact that it can be portable, and that it protects the earth. As was already pointed out, anyone who ever lit a campfire by holding up a magnifying glass has already put solar energy to work for them. Today, these mechanisms are more efficient and effective than ever. In the future it is extremely bright and promising the use of solar power now.
